Is therapy really no-cost for kids and teens? Your questions, answered
One of the first things parents ask us is, "How can therapy possibly cost nothing?" It is a fair question, and it deserves a plain answer.
Many children, teens, and young adults ages 0 to 25 may qualify for therapy with no out-of-pocket cost. Eligibility depends on the individual situation, so our Client Care team looks at your details and explains the options in a simple, low-stress way.
"We already have insurance. Does that rule us out?"
Not necessarily. Many families are surprised to learn they may still qualify even if they already have insurance. If you are not sure, ask. It does not cost anything to find out.
"Do we have to be in crisis?"
No. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of the kids and teens we see are dealing with stress, anxiety, school pressure, friendship struggles, or big changes at home. A steady, safe person to talk to can make a real difference early on.
"Will the school or my child's teachers be told?"
Therapy is confidential and protected by law. Information is not shared with schools, teachers, counselors, or outside parties unless you give written authorization, or disclosure is legally required for safety reasons.
"How long until we can start?"
Many clients can begin quickly without a long waitlist. We offer in-person appointments in Newhall and virtual appointments, and we will match your child with an available therapist.
What actually happens when you text us
Many parents tell us they were nervous to reach out because they did not know what would happen next. Here is what to expect, step by step.
You send a text to 661-383-2252. Share your child's age and a sentence or two about what is going on. You do not need to explain everything.
Our Client Care team replies. They will ask a few simple questions, like what days and times work and whether you prefer in person in Newhall or video.
We check eligibility with you. We will walk through whether your child may qualify for therapy with no out-of-pocket cost. You may be asked for insurance information to register your child, but for eligible clients you will not receive a bill.
We help you find the right therapist. We match based on your child's age, what you are looking for, and your schedule. You can also request a free 15 minute consult to see if we are a good fit.
You book a first session. You will know where to go, what to bring and what the first visit looks like before you ever walk in.
What to have ready
You do not need paperwork to send the first text. When you move forward, it helps to have your child's date of birth, your contact information, and your insurance card handy if you have one. If you are not sure whether your child has coverage, tell us and we will help you figure it out.
More questions we hear
"What is the catch?"
We understand the question. Some therapy services for eligible kids, teens and young adults are available at no out-of-pocket cost, and we are able to offer them. We will always explain the process in plain language before you begin so there are no surprises.
"What if my child does not qualify?"
We will tell you up front and walk through your options, including working with insurance. We would rather you have a clear answer than a surprise.
"My child is 18 or older. Can they sign up on their own?"
Yes. Young adults can reach out themselves, and many do. It is also fine if a parent starts the conversation.
"Will my child get the same quality of care as someone paying out of pocket?"
Yes. Therapy at Creative Connections is the same whether or not there is a cost to your family. Your child works with a therapist matched to them, in person in Newhall or by video, and the same confidentiality rules apply.
"Do we have to commit to a certain number of sessions?"
You can talk about what makes sense with your child's therapist. Most families start with a first session, see how it feels, and plan from there.
"Can parents be involved?"
Yes. For younger children, parents are usually closely involved. For teens, the therapist will explain how privacy works so your teen has a space of their own and you still have a way to stay connected and ask questions.
The simplest next step
Send us a text. Tell us your child's age and what is going on, and we will explain what is available and how to get started. There is no obligation.
